The trailer for the Pakistani web series ‘Dhoop Ki Deewar’, a cross border love story, is causing a storm of controversy on the Pakistani internet. The web-drama features famous actors such as Sajal Aly as Sara from Pakistan and Ahad Raza Mir as Vishal from India portrays the story of two families who lost their loved ones along the line of control- both share their grief through social media leading to their friendship much to the surprise and shock of their families.
However many people from Pakistan have started slamming the series with the hashtag #BanDhoopKiDeewar
According to the Twitter users, is selling the ‘blood of the Kashmiris’ by showing rival soldiers children falling in love. They also dislike the show undermining the ‘the two-nation theory’ the Ideology which leads to the birth of Pakistan implying war is the only reason for the division of Pakistan and India. Many have criticized the series by calling it ‘anti-Pakistani’ some going as far as to call the actors and makers traitors. Here’s what the public reaction is:

In response to the criticism, the makers of the web series said the show was approved by the Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR), the media and the public wing of the army. Ahmad confirmed that the script is her own creation, one that she started writing as a novel in 2018 and owns rights to. She also revealed that she was hired by Pakistani group M to make the story into a drama and she started working on it in 2019.
The people supporting the show say that it is addressing an important subject matter, especially since India- Pakistan relations have been strained in recent years following the Uri attack in 2016 which led to the ban of Pakistani artists from working in Bollywood.
