Omer Sharif is a legendary Pakistani comedian, who needs no introduction. He started his career at an early age of 14 years with stand up comedy. He gained popularity in the sub-continent in 1980s, 1990s and early 2000s.
He has received the “National Award for Best Director” and “Best Actor” in 1992 for superhit film ‘Mr 420’. He was also the host of the hugely popular Geo TV show called “The Shareef Show.”
Veteran Pakistani comedian and television personality Omer Sharif is critically ill. Aged, 66, a noted actor and producer in the sub-continent, is presently admitted in a private hospital in Karachi. He underwent a heart bypass surgery last year and since then his condition has deteriorated, including memory loss.
Messages of support were shared on social media for the family. Videos and photographs of the actor were also shared in which he was seen sitting in a wheelchair, looking visibly unwell. Today, Sharif is lying in a local hospital in Karachi, suffering from multiple illness whose simultaneous treatment is not easy. As has been emphasized by the media lately, that kind of treatment can be done only in three countries — Germany, Saudi Arabia and the US. The videos that have been doing the rounds on social media of the legendary comedian appealing to Prime Minister Imran Khan to look after him are deeply disconcerting.
Bollywood actor and comedian Johnny Lever has paid a rich tribute to veteran Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif and prayed for his speedy recovery. He also urged his fans to pray for Umar’s speedy recovery. “Umar bhai May God bless you with good health,” he added.
Let’s hope and pray that, with the government support, Sharif will return to his usual healthy and witty self. May he recover swiftly and completely!
