Have you ever watched a Pakistani drama and get a déjà vu feeling? Makes us feel that we have seen the similar content somewhere and bam!! A Bollywood movie comes in your mind.
Pakistani dramas are known for their uniqueness and great story lines globally. Especially when Indian media started to air Pakistani dramas on ZEE ZINDAGI, Indian audience went crazy over their quality content and top notch acting. Interestingly, there are few dramas that are copied or heavily inspired from Bollywood movies. These dramas are a spin-off of famous Bollywood movies that can be easily spotted.
Here is a list of a few of those dramas:
Noor ul ain was on air in 2018 on ARY Digital. Starring great names like Sajal Ali, Imran Abbas, Irfan Khoosat & Marina Khan. Shockingly its storyline was copied from the famous Bollywood movie Saathiya. The same story where guy’s family doesn’t approve of the girl coming from a middle-class family resulted in the guy and girl elope and start a new life. The father of the girl couldn’t bear the shame and die of grief.
With a beautiful OST and great star cast, it still failed to make an impact which dragged a 3-hour movie into a full-fledged drama running for weeks.
Dil Banjara (Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaengay)
Dil banjara written by famous writer Faiza Iftikhar, aired on Hum TV in 2016. Starring a famous line of actors like Sanam Saeed, a small-town innocent girl from a conservative family and Adnan Malik, an eccentric wanderer free-spirited guy, falls in love on a trip abroad. This drama is heavily inspired by the Bollywood movie Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
Adding a love triangle, played by Mira Sethi, a friend of the main guy having a crush on him and the heroine, is engaged to a cousin just like Simran was engaged to Kuljeet in DDLJ! (*Sigh*)
Does it seem that difficult to figure out the copied storyline especially from cult classic like DDLJ?
Koi Nahi Apna (Akele Hum Akele Tum)
Fahad Mustafa and Sarwat Gillani starrer, this drama Koi Nahi Apna got aired on ARY Digital in 2014. The entire concept of Koi Nahi Apna is copied from the famous Bollywood movie Akele Hum Akele Tum which was released in 1995. The only difference was the addition of a female character who was a single divorcee with no family, living in the neighbourhood and conveniently available after Alveera (Sarwat Gillani) and Hamza’s (Fahad Mustafa) separation. In the Indian movie father (Amir Khan) takes care of their son single-handedly.
Muhabbat Tujhe Alvida (Judaai)
Much hyped drama Muhabbat Tujhe Alvida, that caught attention mainly due to the audience started to notice the strikingly copied storyline of the drama with the famous 90’s movie Judaai. The drama became the talk of the town instantly even before releasing because people were able to recognize it from the teasers and trailer only.
Adding to that, Sonya Hussain’s acting itself showcases that she is trying to copy the antics of Sri Devi who played the role of the first wife in the movie Judaai and Sonya Hussain played the same role in Paki drama.
Izteraab (We Are Family)
This drama despite being a good main lead cast with Saba Qamar, Mikaal Zulfiqar and Saniya Shamshad failed to gain much popularity. It is only known for having a copied storyline with the Indian Movie ‘’We Are Family’’, which itself was an official remake from the 1998 Hollywood movie ‘’Stepmom’’. The only difference was that in the Paki drama, the man finds himself attracted to the other girl, who is more homely and naïve, and gets married to her behind his first wife’s back. Eventually, the situation turns out to be in his favor as the first wife gives in. This drama was on air on Hum TV in 2014.
Again a Saba Qamar starrer drama, Cheekh was on air at ARY Digital in 2019. This tragic story stretched out to 30 episodes. Starting interestingly, gaining attention with a different storyline, this drama proved to be a pain to watch as the story unfolds in the later episodes. Also, it turned out to be the copy of the Bollywood movie Damini released in 1993. It was a famous movie with some really famous dialogues. The audience and critics were aware of the fact that the drama Cheekh is not an original tale.
Tmhari Natasha (Hum Dil De Chukay Sanam)
Tumhari Natasha is a 2015 Pakistani drama aired on Hum TV. It somehow is the twisted version of the famous Bollywood movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. The change in sequence makes it difficult to spot easily. In the movie, the guy runs off first and then the girl was forced into an arranged marriage, in the drama the sequence was the opposite of that.
This drama was just like any other HUM TV drama featuring a young golden-hearted girl of rich arrogant parents. This kind of storyline is very much seen in every other HUM TV drama.
